An honest installation starts with a conversation: what's there now, what do you want, and how will the property actually be used? A villa with aerothermal heating, induction and ducted air doesn't need what an inherited holiday cottage needs — and stuffing it all into one consumer unit "because it fits" is what causes 70% of the faults we get called to afterwards.
We work to RBT 842/2002 and current ITC-BT: dedicated circuit for kitchen and oven (C3, 6 mm²), bathroom (C5, 2.5 mm² on its own RCD), aircon (C9), general sockets (C2, 2.5 mm²), lighting (C1, 1.5 mm²), and a C10 / C11 reserved for specific loads like water heater, washing machine or dryer.
Recommended new consumer unit: 30 mA super-immunised RCD per critical line (fridge/alarm, aircon, kitchen), MCBs per circuit, Type 2 surge protector (essential on the Costa Blanca for September storms) and an accessible earth terminal block for future measurements.
Most common renovations on the south Costa Blanca:
- Consumer unit upgrade on an 80s/90s property: 1 day of work, 1 more day of adjustment if needed. Cheaper than the next emergency.
- New kitchen with induction: needs its own 6 mm² C3 circuit with a 25–32 A MCB. If the old kitchen ran on a worn 4 mm² C3, it'll trip every time three rings are on.
- Ducted aircon: 4 or 6 mm² dedicated line from the consumer unit, with its own MCB and RCD. Outdoor compressor in an IP65 sealed enclosure minimum.
- Terrace, pool and outdoor lighting: IP65/IP66 materials are mandatory, surge protector strongly recommended, dedicated RCD circuit.
- EV charging point: single-phase 7.4 kW or 3-phase 11 kW depending on contract. Type A or Type B RCD depending on the charger.
We work clean and planned: floor and furniture covered, runs marked before chasing, and at the end we hand over a boletín CIE, labelled consumer-unit schematic and a test certificate. If the contracted power is too low for the new loads, we file the upgrade with Iberdrola / i-DE.

Q.01How long does a full rewire of a 90 m² flat take?
Full rewire with new consumer unit, chased cabling room-by-room and accessories: typically 5–8 working days depending on number of circuits and any building work. Consumer-unit-only upgrade (no cable changes): 1 day.Q.02Will you have to break walls open?
Depends. If the existing cabling is sound and properly sized, we just change the consumer unit and accessories — no building work. If new circuits or larger cable sections are needed, we chase under plaster and re-finish. We decide this on the initial visit.Q.03Can I increase my contracted power with Iberdrola / i-DE?
Yes — we file it for you. Going from 4.6 kW to 6.9 kW or above usually requires a fresh boletín and, depending on the new level, a technical memorandum. We tell you exactly what's needed and submit it.Q.04Do you handle induction and ceramic hob installations?
Yes. Induction needs a dedicated C3 circuit in 6 mm² with a 25–32 A MCB. If your previous hob was gas or older ceramic, the circuit almost certainly needs upgrading. We confirm by measuring.Q.05Is upgrading the consumer unit in an inherited property mandatory?
Not for everyday use, but yes if you need to issue a current boletín CIE (supply activation, ownership change, renovation). And practically speaking: a pre-RBT consumer unit (pre-2003) with no super-immunised RCD is the cause of most of the faults we get called to.Q.06Do you install solar PV?
